The Client

The client is a federal government agency that formulates and accomplishes the government policies for sectors such as agriculture, farming, forestry, and food. It sought Avant-Garde’s expertise in developing an operational reporting system to improve foreign market access to US products.


Overview

The client endeavored to streamline its financial systems and modernize the legacy systems. The project influences over 100,000 employees while equipping the client to manage about $100 billion transparently and efficiently.

The project uses SAP ERP 6.0 to improve the overall functioning of its financial management system, offering the end-users online real-time transactions, access and unparalleled financial capability.

The project uses a web-based solution for fund management and operational reporting of the agency and department. It includes business intelligence (BI) that combines technologies and practices that empower the client to make financial and administrative payments and build accounting systems. BI meets the end-user requirement for robust reporting.

The resultant data from the financial and non-financial sources improves the processes like planning, scheduling, computing and execution. The senior personnel will be updated with important information every minute or as per requirement. Timely delivery of data ensures financial accountability and enables the Congressional overseers and the senior management to make important decisions.

The project involved integrating financial systems across all domains, eliminating information silos and removing data redundancy.



Solution

Avant-Garde team designed Xcelsius dashboards and business intelligence solutions that will support decisions through analytics, metrics, and reporting. A data warehouse platform was built that assists the integration of financial capabilities and reduces data redundancy. This was used in the reduction of manual recompilation throughout the agency.

Initially, the prototypes of the dashboards and Web Intelligence reports were made with extensive requirement gathering and analysis. Analysis involved working with users and managers to build dashboards for departments like Financial Management, Budget vs. Actual Comparison, Human Capital Management, etc.

Operational and analytical tools were built for the warehouse to import the recent transactional data into the data management system. Documentation was performed for design, technical specifications, and functional specifications.

Our team efficiently managed the web-based solution with rigorous testing for access grants. We overcame the technical limitations of Xcelsius through innovative methods and successfully customized components and embedded into Xcelsius 2008.

The operational reporting system designed by Avant-Garde met the tactical and strategic reporting needs of end-users.
